What’s Meaningful Use? Patient Portal Introduced by Multispecialty Group Practice Marketing in Albany, NY Area

Physicians and patients in the upstate, Albany NY area are connecting in new ways with the introduction myCareDOT patient portal. Community Care Physicians (CCP) – a multispecialty medical group of 200 providers – is currently rolling-out a user-friendly portal that could be a group practice marketing model or for hospitals and other provider facilities.

CCP’s vision is to improve health care quality with the adoption of health information technology. At the top of the list is an online feature labeled webVisit – the ability for patients to receive “virtual care” for every day medical issues. They describe it as “allowing unparalleled access to their doctors and health information.” The portal also facilitates managing lab results, personal health records, appointment scheduling and referrals, patient health education and electronic prescribing.

Community Care patients first create a user account and select a primary care physician. They can update their personal health record, including medical problems, medications, allergies, family and social history, and immunizations. If the patient accepts the online relationship terms, they can send general messages to their doctor, request/cancel an appointment, request a prescription refill, or request a referral.

Most of the portal services are free of charge to the patient. The webVisit, however, has an associated cost which may be covered or covered with co-pay by some insurance plans. They system advises the patient of any co-pay or standard fee is prior to the webVisit session.

The mycareDOT patient portal and Electronic Health Record program currently serves over 3,000 patients in six of the Community Care offices. Community Care Physicians, P.C. is a multi-specialty medical group with over 35 practices in 20 specialty services, including Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Pediatric Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynecology, ImageCare Medical Imaging, Image Guided Radiation Therapy, Interventional Radiology, General Surgery, Urology, Physical Therapy, Urgent Care, Walk-In Care, Laboratory, Audiology, Dermatology, Diabetes Education and Nutrition, Occupational Medicine, Business Care, Wellness, and Aesthetic Laser.
