We’ve long been a fan of LinkedIn for physicians, healthcare professionals and hospital executives. Facebook features friends and family. Twitter is fast and furious. But LinkedIn is the business-serious social media. Until now, that is. LinkedIn is unveiling a major facelift.
The redesign aims to make LinkedIn users more social, informed, connected and engaged. (While keeping the Brooks Brothers suit and power tie.) In short, it’s a plus for providers and healthcare professionals.
Not surprisingly, LinkedIn borrows some functions and features from other social platforms. Facebook and Twitter, for example, have be the leading tools for connecting with and engaging patients. The LinkedIn emphasis, on the other hand, has been professional development. Some of the new-and-improved features that you’ll find among the website redesign include:
- A LinkedIn Interest Feed that aggregates timely and trending industry content, thought leader comments, news and articles.
- The new chatbot feature digitally assists users with meetings, calendars and other helpful functions.
- Desktop profile pages feature an up to date look and layout and improved user navigation.
- Streamlined messaging, a takeaway from its mobile app, helps LinkedIn user/members to communicate privately. It’s easier and the annoying pop-ups are out of the way.
- Content search and hashtags expand professional knowledge for topics you care about.
- Learning platform launched, in conjunction with subsidiary Lynda.com’s database of online courses.
LinkedIn’s goals and objectives…
Observers say this is the biggest facelift/redesign ever for LinkedIn, already a major player among the social media platforms. Having recently been acquired by Microsoft, LinkedIn would like to move up from the 4th most popular networking site, and tap into the social success of Facebook (#1).
As a result, changes benefit the user, but also make the site more “sticky.” Therefore, the visitor on stays on pages longer and engagement goes up. Finally, LinkedIn is currently rolling out these changes and new feature and design changes will be available to members online soon.
